Get started here on your Communicating Across Difference Credential!

By participating in a NextGen Roundtable deliberation, you have built and practiced the critical skills of communication, active listening, problem-solving, and navigating differing viewpoints, and you have earned the Deliberative Dialogue Badge in the process. Now, you have the opportunity to continue on to the  Communicating Across Difference Credential by becoming an ambassador for deliberation in your home community.

All you need to do is:

  1. Submit a plan  for leading a deliberation on an issue that matters to you.
  2. Conduct  your community deliberation. You can use the resources provided below or choose a topic and provide materials of your own.
  3. Upload a photo from your deliberation and a reflection  here. Once reviewed, we will send you your digital badge, certificate of completion, and letter from Congress celebrating your achievement.

DELIBERATION RESOURCES

Below are some sample resources, created by Close Up, that you are welcome to use for your community deliberation. For each issue, you’ll find a packet that contains a deliberation scenario and two background news articles. We have also created a deliberation planning guide (intended for you, the facilitator) with sample prompts for discussion that can be adapted to any topic.

Remember, you are not required to use these resources. You are welcome to choose a different community issue that interests you and provide your participants with your own scenario, background news articles, and prompts for discussion.

Good luck!
