Gaining Insights from Experts

A vital part of Close Up’s curriculum to inform, inspire, and empower students is a series of seminars throughout the program week. These topical speaking engagements allow students to talk with experts in policy, advocacy, media, or citizen action; become more informed about issues they care about; and learn about organizations that are promoting change in the world.

Seeing Two Sides to Every Issue

One of the opening components of a Close Up program is a Domestic Issues Debate between two DC-area professionals: one liberal and one conservative. Students ask questions, the debaters share their views, and the audience gains an understanding of how the two sides think—without the lens of media or social networks.

To become a debater, all you need is a passion for politics and policy from the liberal or conservative viewpoint. No experience in formal, competitive debate is needed. Learn more and fill out an interest form today!

THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS!
