Deliberative Dialogue Badge

A record of students’ vital communication skills developed through deliberation.

Earn a certification of your discourse skills to share with schools and employers.

By participating in a NextGen Roundtable student deliberation, you build and practice critical skills that colleges and employers look for: communication, active listening, problem-solving, and the ability to navigate differing viewpoints. You also earn the Deliberative Dialogue Badge as a shareable record of those skills—with the option of continuing on to the Advanced Deliberative Dialogue Badge once you return home.

How do you earn the Deliberative Dialogue Badge?

All you need to do to earn your badge is join Close Up for a local, regional, or national NextGen Roundtable deliberation and complete the following:

  • Engage: Listen to other perspectives, notice persuasive arguments, weigh the strengths and trade-offs of policy options, and observe how facilitators guide productive dialogue.
  • Reflect: After deliberating, complete the provided reflection prompts to demonstrate your ability to assess policy proposals, identify bias, and evaluate persuasive communication.

To go further and achieve the Advanced Deliberative Dialogue Badge, become an ambassador for deliberation by returning to your community, leading a conversation on an issue that matters to you (using Close Up’s facilitation guide and resources if you choose), and submitting a reflection.
