Civic Ambassadors

This opportunity is open to students in grades 7-12 who have a demonstrated interest in civics, community engagement, and making a positive impact on the world. Previous participation in a Close Up program is not required, but this program is a wonderful follow-up opportunity for students who want to build upon the Close Up experience, join a network of like-minded peers, and continue the work in their schools and communities.  

The first step is to complete the short application. The application includes a short answer question that you can complete as a brief essay or a one-minute video. Once we receive your application, we will send you more information by email, including a link to Close Up resources that you can use to complete your civic engagement activity or activities.  

The Civic Ambassador Badge is awarded annually. You are welcome to reapply each year and complete new civic engagement activities to earn that year’s badge. 

To earn the Civic Ambassador Badge, you must complete one civic engagement activity and submit a photo and a short reflection. To earn the Advanced Civic Ambassador Badge, you must complete three civic engagement activities and submit a photo and a short reflection for each. Close Up will provide a library of resources and activities to choose from. 

Yes! If your state offers a civic engagement diploma seal, the activities you take part in for the Civic Ambassador Badge may be applicable toward that seal. The activities may also count toward your school’s graduation requirements. Please talk to your teacher/advisor about specific seal requirements and graduation requirements.  

By becoming a Civic Ambassador, you are joining a nationwide network of young leaders learning how to convene people around important issues, participate in local government, and promote the value of being an engaged citizen. Close Up will provide guidance on how to organize and host events and ensure you are equipped with best practices, resources, and skills needed to have maximum impact across the school and local community.
