State Department Summer-Abroad Programs

This program is open to high school students who are U.S. citizens, aged 15-18, with a 2.5 GPA or higher.  The NSLI-Y program offers merit-based scholarships to study one of eight critical foreign languages: Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian, and Turkish. Students interested in learning a different culture and receiving both formal and informal language training are encouraged to apply.

The YES program offers merit-based scholarships to spend an academic year in countries that may include Bosnia & Herzegovina, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Macedonia, Malaysia, Morocco, Philippines, Senegal, Thailand, and Turkey. The goal is to increase understanding between people in the United States and people in countries with significant Muslim populations. Students who are U.S. citizens and aged 15-18 are eligible to apply.

CBYX offers merit-based scholarships for an academic year in Germany. The program was established in 1983 to celebrate German-American friendship based on common values of democracy. U.S. citizens aged 15-18 with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are eligible to apply.
