Looking Back to Build Ahead Program

A partnership between Close Up, the Utah Jazz, and Delta Air Lines.

Building Connections Between Human and Civil Rights

In partnership with the Utah Jazz and Delta Air Lines, Close Up’s Looking Back to Build Ahead Program in Washington, D.C. uses the history and landmarks of our nation’s capital to provide students with the chance to explore connections between the U.S. Civil Rights Movement and global movements for human rights.

As students take part in Close Up’s interactive civic education programming, they are guided by a central question: “How can young people take an active role in protecting human and civil rights?” Through discussion and deliberation, workshops, and site visits, students examine the roles of everyday people in the Civil Rights Movement, study the role of government, and work together to envision ways in which they can protect human and civil rights.
