UPDATE: January 18, 2025 

Currently, the only confirmed indoor public site for viewing the inauguration is the Capital One Arena. Space will be extremely limited. There may be public viewing outside on the screens facing 7th Street NW, but this is not confirmed. Infrastructure for public viewing, such as speakers, large screens, and bleachers, have been removed from the National Mall. The Smithsonian museums on the National Mall are scheduled to remain closed on Monday.

• National Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center
• National Zoo (free tickets required)
• International Spy Museum (admission fee required)

Options for lunch include:

• Pentagon City Mall (Metro: Pentagon City, Blue/Yellow Lines)
• Crystal Drive (Metro: Crystal City, Blue/Yellow Lines)
• Old Town Alexandria (Metro: King Street, Blue/Yellow Lines)

D.C.

• U Street (Metro: U Street, Green/Yellow Lines)
• Dupont Circle (Metro: Dupont Circle, Red Line)
• Eastern Market (Metro: Eastern Market, Orange/Blue/Silver Lines)
• George Washington University (Metro: Foggy Bottom/GW: Orange/Blue/Silver Lines)

Close Up will now staff one emergency station in the city from 9:00am-3:00pm, which will be at the Grand Hyatt located at 1000 H Street NW.

Inauguration ceremonies have been moved into the Capitol due to the anticipated cold weather. We have created an alternative option you and your students are welcome to attend. As teachers, you will still be responsible for your students during Inauguration Day until dinner begins at your program hotel.

Your hotel breakfast on Inauguration Day will be shifting to 7:00–10:00 am. Close Up staff will offer an alternative inauguration viewing option at the Crystal Gateway Marriott (1700 Richmond Hwy, Arlington, VA 22202) from 10:00 am–2:30 pm. Full details are below.

Alternative Inauguration Viewing Option:

• Programming will begin at 10:00 am at the Crystal Gateway Marriott (1700 Richmond Hwy, Arlington, VA 22202) in Salons 4-6.
• We will stream the inauguration ceremonies and Close Up staff will be present to provide context about inauguration.
• Lunch will not be provided. We would encourage you to Metro (Blue or Yellow Line) to Pentagon City Mall, or to walk your students to Crystal Drive to use the cash that students will receive on Sunday.
• You are not able to eat lunch in Salons 4-6.
• Streaming will conclude at 2:30 pm.
