Close Up’s Program Instructors are the heart and soul of our programs and ensure students have a safe, rewarding, and fun experience!
They come from some of the nation’s top universities as well as from distinguished programs such as the Peace Corps, Teach for America, and AmeriCorps. Hailing from all over the country, our instructors have a wide range of expertise and civic education work experience–many of them have taught overseas, interned on Capitol Hill, or hold a master’s degree or teaching diploma.
Our instructors have over 120 hours of curriculum and methodology training and are certified in First Aid and CPR.
Close Up instructors use the lesson plans in our civic education curriculum to build students’ skills and dispositions for democratic engagement. In addition, reflecting on the new knowledge and skills that students build during program, they help participants reflect on their own political efficacy and assess their growth as powerful democratic citizens.
I think Close Up’s virtual program is an amazing experience…
I learned that there’s a huge network of people with the same goals and drive as me…
and that our collaboration really could make a difference. It gave me hope for the future of our communities and our nation!
As a government teacher, it’s nice to have more resources…
for teaching media literacy and having students critically think about the information they receive.
Close Up brought me CLOSER to politics…
the entire notion no longer seemed obscure. I became very involved in politics on the local and national level.
