USET Impact Week Youth Summit

Work with fellow youth from USET Member Tribal Nations to engage Tribal Leaders and the USET Council on key issues affecting your Tribal Nation and homelands.

Examine the relationship between Tribal Nations and the federal government.

During this seven-day/six-night program, students from USET Member Tribal Nations examine self-determination in Indian Country, the responsibilities of citizenship, and the contemporary impact of unfulfilled trust and treaty obligations. While visiting national institutions in Washington, D.C., and engaging with Tribal Leaders and the USET Council, students deepen their insight into Tribal sovereignty and Indigenous agency.

With Close Up, students will:

  • Collaborate to create a Sovereignty Statement to present to the USET Council;
  • Engage directly with USET staff and Tribal Leaders during Impact Week events;
  • Examine the impact of unfulfilled trust and treaty obligations through visits to monuments, memorials, and museums; and
  • Develop and present a Tribal Action Initiative focused on a priority community issue.
