Congressional Simulation | January 10, 2026

In partnership with Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), Close Up will be holding a congressional simulation Day for PGCPS 8th grade and high school students. Held at the University of Maryland campus, the Congressional Simulation Day will give high school students the opportunity to engage with peers across the county on pressing current issues. Students will take on the role of members of the House of Representatives to deliberate real-world legislation, review and amend bills, offer arguments in favor and opposition to each bill, and vote ‘Yea’ or ‘Nay’ on each becoming law. 

 When: January 10, 2026 | 9am-1:30pm

Civic Leaders | Date & Time TBD

Civic Leaders, a program created in partnership between Close Up and PGCPS, is an exciting opportunity for rising eighth graders and rising tenth graders. Through this summer program, students can improve their civic and political knowledge and efficacy, practice critical skills, and meet Maryland College and Career Ready (MCCR) Standards. With the facilitation of Close Up instructors, students will follow a curriculum that emphasizes building citizenship skills and democratic dispositions, engage with their community, and take part in persuasive writing and speaking activities about pressing current issues.
