Close Up’s 4-day Program runs Saturday to Tuesday and is a great option for students looking for a valuable academic experience in Washington, DC that fits their busy academic schedules. With just two days overlapping with school time, this program can be used as an experiential component of government, current issues AP or IB classes.

From visits to Washington’s famous monuments, memorials, and institutions, to meetings with their Congressional delegation on Capitol Hill, Close Up students get a first-hand look at the American political system and consider what role they, as students, play in our democracy. Students will consider the following questions during the program:

  • What is the proper role of government at the state, local and national level?
  • How can I effectively advocate for policy issues that are important to me?
  • How do I express my views to those whose opinions differ from my own?
  • What lessons from history form my opinions on current national and domestic policy?

This popular program is offered in October and January.
