Once the pomp and circumstance of the inauguration winds down, Washington settles in and gets down to business. Don’t miss this exciting time as the U.S. president and congress start their terms!
During our 6-day/5-night President’s First Week Program, students will examine the contributions of past presidents, assess the president’s agenda, and discuss the changing roles of Congress and the presidency. With the help of our Program Instructors, students consider how the people and events represented in DC’s memorials impact their lives today.
The President’s First Week Program provides students with the opportunity to:
- Experience world-renowned Smithsonian museums where history, art, and culture come alive;
- Engage in meaningful discussions with peers from around the country and debate the most pressing issues facing our nation in a Mock Congress;
- Meet face-to-face with their congressional delegation on Capitol Hill;
- Visit Mount Vernon–George Washington’s home–to learn about his legacy; and
- Hear from policy experts on the most pressing issues facing our nation!
Participation in a Close Up program requires parent or guardian approval for any participants under 18 years of age.
