Close Up’s Washington/Williamsburg program option gives teachers and students
the best of both worlds: 6 days in the nation’s capital on our flagship
Washington High School Program, plus 1 day in Colonial Williamsburg. Just
a 3-hour ride from DC, Williamsburg is America’s most historic and well-preserved
example of Colonial government and culture. Under the guidance of
Williamsburg’s famed Historical Interpreters, students and teachers will explore
the historic homes, gardens, and marketplaces in one of America’s oldest cities.
Students often point to the tavern lunch and visits to the colonial courthouse and
the College of William & Mary as the highlights of their time in Williamsburg.
Experiencing the history of Colonial Williamsburg gives students a visual understanding of the struggles our Founding Fathers faced while attempting to create a functional government in the New World.
While our Washington/Williamsburg program is generally offered in the fall, many teachers add time in Williamsburg by
customizing
their own trip or adding a day trip option.
