Close Up at the Newseum’s Weekly Memorial Dedication to Fallen or Imprisoned Journalists.

This week we acknowledge journalist Miguel Perez Julca who was murdered on March 17, 2007 in Peru. The day before he was killed, he announced during his radio program, “El Informativo del Pueblo,” that he would reveal the names of three corrupt police officers under the Interior Ministry’s Jaen who had extorted money from drug traffickers and other gang members. Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Student Documentaries

Our weekly TV show enables high school students to discuss hot topics with their peers from schools nationwide, policy experts, accomplished journalists and key public figures -- all before a live audience at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.  It is broadcast on C-SPAN to 85,000,000 households.

The focus of our show is the 1st Amendment.  Thus, students who participate get the best of both worlds. They exercise their own 1st Amendment rights by discussing hot topics with their peers and guests.
